Caterpillar Unveils the Modern Cat 995 Wheel Loader, Replacing the 994K

Caterpillar has just launched the Cat 995, the company’s largest wheel loader to date. Building on the success of the Cat 994K, the new model is more modern, powerful, heavier, and fuel-efficient.

Enhanced Load Capacity and Hydraulics: The Cat 995 can handle up to five tons more in its bucket and features sharpened, stronger hydraulics. Additionally, the machine is about eight percent more fuel-efficient than its predecessor, thanks to the new Eco Mode, according to Zeppelin Mining’s Product Manager, Torbjörn Ferm.

Boosted Productivity: Overall, the Cat 995 increases productivity by 19 percent due to its higher load capacity and refined hydraulics, which provide greater hydraulic power. To support this increased capacity, the machine’s front linkage has been upgraded, and the dimensions of axles, pins, and bushings have been increased.

Perfect Match for Mining Trucks: The new Cat 995 pairs well with Caterpillar’s mining trucks, with the increased load capacity leading to a 20 to 33 percent boost in production and efficiency when loading the Cat 785, 789, and 793 trucks. The machine is powered by a robust Cat 3516E engine and meets EU Stage V emissions standards.

Superior Operator Comfort: Operator comfort is always a priority. The Cat 995 features a new, more modern cab with 50 percent more legroom and enhanced comfort. The pressurized cab reduces vibrations and noise and includes automatic temperature control. The premium seat offers extensive adjustability to fit all body sizes and is equipped with heating and ventilation.

Improved Visibility: The cab’s glass area has increased by 25 percent, and the windshield wiper’s sweep area by over 60 percent, providing better visibility than before. Two 10-inch color monitors are dedicated to machine control functions, and a third 8-inch color screen displays the rearview camera, which can be upgraded to a multi-view system for 270-degree visibility and object detection.

Smart Features for Easier Operation: The Cat 995 comes with enhanced functionality such as Autodig, Tire Slip Prevention, Lift Stall Prevention, and Auto Set Tires. These technologies lead to higher automation and reduced wear. The Operator Coaching tool is available as an option, recognizing and analyzing operator behaviors that impact efficiency, production, and wear, and providing real-time suggestions for improving driving techniques.

The new Cat 995 will be showcased for the first time at Caterpillar’s booth at the Bauma fair from April 7–13 in Munich, Germany. Visitors will have the opportunity to see how its futuristic design and innovative features contribute to transforming the industry with safer, more sustainable, and more productive operations.

The new wheel loader will be available in North America and selected European markets starting in the first quarter of 2025. The first generation Cat 995 will coexist with the updated model for a while, catering to customers in light to medium applications such as waste management, material recycling, and general construction work.
