Caterpillar Unveils Safety & Payload Tech for Medium Wheel Loaders

Caterpillar has announced new technology options for its next-generation Cat® medium wheel loaders (models 950–982 and XE variants), focusing on enhanced safety, payload accuracy, and operational efficiency.

A headline feature is the Collision Warning System with Motion Inhibit, a fully integrated package that combines radar and smart-camera sensors. It includes three-zone proximity alerts—yellow (awareness), amber (caution), and red (critical)—along with object and people detection. If a hazard is detected behind the loader when it shifts into reverse, the system stops the machine from moving and applies the brake, alerting the operator visually and audibly.

Additionally, Caterpillar introduced Cat® Payload for Trade, an upgrade to its Advanced Payload scale system. This legally certified feature captures and transmits accurate load data directly into business systems or via email—helping streamline workflow and ensure compliance with measurement standards.

Other available tech enhancements include:

  • 360° Multiview vision and HD rear camera
  • Auto Set Tires, Auto‑dig, and Programmable Kickouts
  • Speed limit controls and tire pressure monitoring
  • Remote software updates (Remote Flash) and diagnostics (Remote Troubleshoot)
  • Remote operation via “Command for Loading” console for both line‑of‑sight and off‑site control

These advancements are aimed at increasing jobsite safety, productivity, and operator comfort across various applications—from truck loading to general construction.
